Sun Valley & Stanley River Rafting Trips: Kid Camp Week

Each summer Sawtooth Adventure Company has the opportunity to host a number of kid camps in the Sawtooth Basin. The guides love these trips. It gives them the opportunity to relax, have fun with the kids and enjoy everything that comes with spending the day on the river with 12-18 year olds. Loud screams, water fights, and riding the bull are the norm this week while we host over 150 kids to a fun and wet day on the Salmon river. Thisa week we host the Idaho Diabetic Youth Program, The Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind, and Lutheran Heights Church Youth Group.

Rafting in Sun Valley and Stanley, Idaho

Update for the Salmon River in Stanley, Idaho:

The past few weeks have been unseasonably cold in Stanley. It is June 9th and there is snow in the forecast. Its hard to want to float the river when it is 40 degrees and raining. The weather finds the guides grumpy, thank goodness for hot springs or they might all go mad.
The guides are anxiously waiting for the switch from Spring too Summer and it looks to be on the doorstep. The abnormally cold spring has kept the snow in the mountains, which is great news for the 2008 rafting season! With ample snow in the mountains and a slow run-off I predict we will see the best summer rafting conditions the Salmon river has seen in over a decade.
Head up to Stanley this summer and join us for a day of Idaho rafting at its best. Hope to see you soon.

2008 SAC Training Trip: Bruneau River

Each Spring Sawtooth Adventure Company hosts an employee training trip to prepare for the upcoming season. This year SAC explored the Bruneau River, an oasis in the enormous desert of SE Idaho. The Bruneau was full of surprising discoveries, from the huge whitewater to the picture-prefect campsites to the four-foot high poison ivy forests. The Bruneau River canyon shocked us all with its stark contrast from the surrounding sage-filled plains. The river wound its way through tight canyon walls, which meant very little visibility ahead and, in turn, lots of quick decisions. It was especially exciting because none of us had been on the Bruneau before. There were plenty of Class IV rapids to keep us on our toes. Everything went perfectly though, which bodes well for our upcoming season. We can't wait to see you here in Stanley!
